Southern expeditions: Tracing bioinvasions in Cádiz and Huelva

Part 2 of 3

Continuing our exploration of Spain's coastal regions, the TEMPOINVASIONS team ventured to the southern Atlantic coasts, focusing on the Bay of Cádiz and the island of Saltés in Huelva. In Cádiz, we identified four sampling zones, while in Huelva, we targeted two opposing points on the island.

Each sediment core extracted from these locations offers a layered historical record, capturing ecological changes and the introduction of non-native species over time. Back in the laboratory, we are employing techniques such as XRF analysis and stable isotope analysis to complement our DNA sequencing efforts.

Through these combined methodologies, we aim to piece together a comprehensive picture of marine bioinvasions in these regions.

In the next post, you will get a sneak peak of the molecular laboratory work.
